Street Angels Birkenhead

Project Overview
A volunteer-led initiative supported by local churches, working to ensure safety in Birkenhead town centre during the evening and night-time. Teams of volunteers help prevent crime, reduce risks, and assist those in need, collaborating with the police, NHS, and other services to create a safer community.
What We Do
Birkenhead Street Angels is a new project, piloted from December 2024 to March 2025 helping to support vulnerable people in the evening and nighttime.
The project is supported by the StepUp Fund, which is a public health and shared prosperity fund to assist local organisations in the delivery of their programmes which align with and support the Councils Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
The project involves co-designing, implementing and evaluating a ROC Angels supported project with night-time economy partners and the faith community in and around the Birkenhead area. This involves engaging community stakeholders and the public, designing the project, developing the set-up of the project and recruiting and training volunteers. Street Angels is a churches-led programme where volunteering is available to all diverse backgrounds.
Upon completion of the pilot in March 2025, Street Angels Birkenhead commissioned a University of Chester evaluation into the project. The evaluation not only gives a great insight into the outcomes, challenges and community response to Street Angels Birkenhead so far, but also offers an exploration into how to further the programme and its potential for growth.
