Welcome to Andrea joining the team as new Administrator
Hitch Communities is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrea Powell, joining as Administrator. We interviewed her in her first week so you can get to know her a little.
So, tell us a bit about you? Where are you from?
I live in Helsby, a commuter town near the M56. My husband works in nearby Daresbury, and we have three lively children aged 1, 4, and 6, so life is quite a whirlwind! Originally from Herefordshire, I moved to Mid Wales in my late teens and studied at Aberystwyth University. We relocated to Helsby in 2018, and it’s been a great place to call home.
What about your career? Give us a quick run-down?
After a transformative gap year spent travelling in Uganda and working, I graduated with a degree in Human Geography from Aberystwyth University in 2013. I then undertook a year-long internship with Scripture Union, a Christian charity dedicated to helping children and young people explore their faith. Since then, my career has been quite varied, including roles such as working in a deli, handling administration for an accountant, supervising a holiday park reception, and managing operations at a clothing company in Bromborough. Recently, I chose to return to my original career goals and joined Hitched Communities.
What attracted you to join Hitched Communities?
Joining a charity has always been a goal of mine, and I’ve spent much of my free time volunteering for various causes. Hitched Communities’ dedication to social change, especially on The Wirral, is truly inspiring, so I really couldn’t miss out on the chance to join. My passion for organisation and administration aligned perfectly with the role Hitched Communities were seeking, and I’m excited to contribute to the charity’s growth and impact.
What was your first week like?
My first week was a whirlwind of information and introductions! I spent a lot of time familiarising myself with the charity’s work and its partners, and diving into official documentation. I also took the time to organise some meetings, book onto some training, and connect with key people. The week flew by, and I’m eager to dive back into the work!
What job do you think you’re about to embark on? And why not throw in what you think will be the best and most challenging bits.
As an administrator, my role is to streamline and enhance the charity’s operations. By managing the organisational and operational tasks, I’ll enable a renewed focus on new projects and building community relationships. I’m excited about the opportunity to improve our charity’s efficiency and visibility. While there will be challenges, such as adjusting to working within a small team and tackling various obstacles, our shared dedication to community service will help us navigate these hurdles.
What do you like to get up to on the weekend?
As a mum of three there’s not much rest on a weekend! Around swimming lessons, cricket and church we love to get out on our bikes in the local forest, or go for a walk to explore. We are also keen members of the National Trust, so you can often find us at one of those with a picnic; even in the Winter!
